A new year, and also a new version of the iOS operating system for the iPhone. New features are not coming to all supported iPhones!
Despite the large number of devices eligible for the latest iOS 16 update by Apple, not all of the phones mentioned in the previous list will get all the features of the new OS. For example, the new on-device dictation feature in iOS 16 announced yesterday requires at least an A12 Bionic processor or later, so if your phone is on an older version like iPhone Xs or Xr unfortunately you won’t get it even if your phone supports the upcoming OS.
The Live Text feature also coming with the latest update for the iPhone also requires a minimum A12 chip to be able to run, so any iPhone with a processor less than it will not get it. Yes, sometimes all you need is an extra piece of hardware!
What is the cheapest iPhone I can buy right now?
As the iOS system evolves greatly with each new release, in fact you will need to have your phone at least iPhone Xs, Xr or XS Max in order to enjoy the full experience of iOS 16. Other than the features that some phones will not get, Apple’s operating system also contains many other new features such as the ability to modify the lock screen and add notifications and widgets, Apple Pay improvements for electronic payment, the ability to send and edit messages later through the iMessage app, in addition to redesigning some default iOS app.
